Metal Injection Molding (MIM)

Metal Injection Molding (MIM) for Precision, Strength and Savings

Metal injection molding (MIM) is an effective way to produce complex and precision-shaped parts from a variety of materials – without machining. MIM can produce parts at a lower cost than CNC machining or investment casting.

When you partner with Phillips-Medisize, you align with a world-class, award-winning provider of MIM services. MIM offers you low- to high-volume manufacturing capability. Your total cost savings result from the function of shape complexity, production volumes, size of the part, and material used.

The MIM Process

Metal Injection Molding (MIM) can produce parts ranging in size up to 150 grams, although most parts produced are less than 30 grams. Since MIM can produce parts without machining, the process is ideal for the manufacture of metal parts that would require extensive machining or assembly operations if made by any other metal forming process.

Metal Injection Molding (MIM) produces components with attributes that include:

  • Relatively small, highly complex geometries
  • Excellent surface finish
  • Superior quality and strength
  • Superior corrosion resistance
  • High repeatability
  • Dimensional precision
