Traditionally, liquid silicone rubber (LSR)and thermoplastics such as PC, PBT, and PA inhabited different worlds. They solved different problems and were handled using differentprocesses. But all that has changed rapidly in recent years, especiallyin Europe, where the trend first took root. Now, combined LSR andthermoplastic parts are showing up in products ranging from intravenouscomponents to showerheads and spark plug boots.
“We often have customers who are very familiar withthermoplastics. Sometimes they are familiar with silicone applications, too. However, for many of them the advantages of combining the two willcome as a revelation.”
