Novare Surgical Systems Inc. Wins Medical Design Excellence Award – Phillips Plastics Corporation® Cited For Role As Supplier
Prescott, Wisconsin – Phillips Plastics Corporation announced today that it is honored as a supplier for a 2008 Medical Design Excellence Award winning product. Phillips Plastics was instrumental in the design and manufacture of the Novare Surgical Systems Inc. RealHand high-dexterity instrument – the very first full range of motion hand-held laparoscopic tool for use during surgery.
The Medical Design Excellence Award competition is organized and presented by Canon Communications LLC (Los Angeles) and is the only awards program that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products. Entries are evaluated on the basis of their design and engineering features, including innovative use of materials, user-related functions that improve healthcare delivery and change traditional medical attitudes or practices, features that provide enhanced benefits to the patient, and the ability of the product development team to overcome design and engineering challenges so that the product meets its clinical objectives.
"Phillips Plastics Corporation is honored to have been associated with the success of Novare and the RealHand device. The program is a great success story highlighting our design through distribution capabilities for the medical market," explains Vice President of Sales and Engineering, Bill Welch.
Adds Dave Danitz, Vice President, R&D, Novare Surgical, "Phillips Plastics played an integral role in the success of the product. We chose Phillips Plastics because of their expertise with metal injection molding (MIM) surgical jaws. Plus, they're a class shop, so they care very much about quality."
A comprehensive review of the entries was performed by an impartial, multidisciplinary panel of third-party jurors with expertise in biomedical engineering, human factors, industrial design, medicine, and diagnostics.
The 2008 Medical Design Excellence Award winners will be honored at a ceremony during the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East Conference and Exposition, June 3-5, 2008, at New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Gold and silver award recipients will be announced at this time.
