Phillips Plastics Corporation Recognized As Supplier to Medical Design Excellence Award Winner
Prescott, Wisconsin – Phillips Plastics CorporationTM, a custom injection molder of plastic and metal, is being recognized as a supplier to Insulet Corporation, who recently became a recipient of the 2006 Medical Design Excellence Award for their product, the OmniPodTM Insulin Management System.
The Medical Design Excellence Awards competition is organized and presented by Canon Communication LLC (Los Angeles) and is the only awards program that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products. Entries are evaluated on the basis of their design and engineering features, including innovative use of materials, user-related functions that improve healthcare delivery and change traditional medical attitudes or practices, features that provide enhanced benefits to the patient, and the ability of the product development team to overcome design and engineering challenges so the product meets its clinical objectives.
The OmniPod is an insulin management system, which eliminates the need for daily insulin injections, via a needle or syringe, and does not require the patient to be tethered to a conventional insulin pump via tubing. Insulet and Phillips Plastics collaborated during the design and production phases of the program.

device industry. Insulet chose Phillips for our different prototyping options and diverse manufacturing capabilities. They knew early on they needed to partner with a company that would help them succeed. Although there are challenging components, by working together and drawing upon Phillips’ experience in multi- shot, micro molding, medical molding, and decorating, it has been a successful program.”
The 2006 Medical Design Excellence Award winners will be honored at a June 7 ceremony during the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East Conference and Exposition, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
